Ravin R500 Crossbow Kit Color: Slate Gray, Velocity: 500 fps
The R500 takes crossbow innovation to the next level for hunters and shooters who respect Ravin’s legendary technology. Traditional crossbows have been transformed into the fastest, most accurate, most smallest designs ever seen thanks to the new unique HexCoil Cam System, which spins the cams an astounding 360 degrees.
This crossbow, which uses the new R500 Draw Handle and cocks back to a slender 3.6 in when fully cocked, fires arrows downrange at 500 feet per second and is completely silent! The innovative VersaDrive Cocking System on the R500 uses an internal screw drive to move the Trac Trigger Firing System (TTFS) back and forth.
The VersaDrive System’s internal clutch prevents over-cocking and allows cocking and uncocking to be halted and resumed at any point during the operation. By purchasing the new Electric Drive Kit, which is offered separately, the R500 can be upgraded to the R500E.
Ravin is the only brand that can create a buzz in the crossbow world. They’ve got bowhunters…er, crossbow hunters… When they teased the all-new Ravin R500, branded as the world’s first commercially available 500-feet-per-second crossbow, they were talking about last winter.
Cocking the Ravin R500
This is a completely different cocking system from the previous versions’ strap, which was attached to the Ravin trigger assembly and looped back into the stock. To loosen the strap and cock the bow on the Ravin R500, there are no latches or buttons to depress. You can pause or resume the cocking action at any time without placing anything under strain (save the bow limbs and strings). A slip clutch activates once you reach full draw, preventing you from overdrawing the system. Simply attach the handle and rotate the crank in the opposite direction to decock the bow. It couldn’t be easier to understand. It can be turned up or down.
Scopes for the Ravin R500
A skeletonized protective shroud surrounds the crossbow’s whole rail, including the threaded rods. On top of that, there’s a 9-inch picatinny scope rail, and the bow comes with a 30mm scope. (Depending on the package, you’ll get a different type scope.) The scope on my test bow includes an illuminated reticle that is graduated to 100 yards. The top circle is 30 yards instead of the customary 20; the bow fires so quickly and flat that the difference isn’t noticeable.
